NOTICE OF FILING
OF APPLICATION FOR
CAMA DEVELOPMENT PERMIT
The NC Department of Environmental Quality hereby gives public notice as required by N.C.G.S. 113A-119(b) that an application for a development permit in an Area of Environmental Concern as designated under the Coastal Area Management Act (CAMA) was received on August 11, 2026. The applicant, NC DOT, proposes to replace the Culvert on SR 1362 (Cutting Sage Road) over an unnamed canal to Pamlico Sound on Ocracoke Island, Hyde County. The existing culvert would be replaced with a concrete bridge along the existing alignment. Staged construction would maintain one lane of traffic during construction, which is expected to last approximately six months. During construction, boat access will not be allowed through the construction area for safety reasons. A copy of the entire application may be examined or copied at the office of Lee Cannady, NC Division of Coastal Management, 943 Washington Square Mall, Washington, NC 27889.
Comments mailed to Tancred Miller, Director, Division of Coastal Management, 400 Commerce Avenue, Morehead City, NC 28557, prior to October 7, 2026, will be considered in making the permit decision. Later comments will be accepted and considered up to the time of permit decision. Project modification may occur based on review and comment by the public and state and federal agencies. Notice of the permit decision in this matter will be provided upon written request.
