NOTICE OF FILING OF
APPLICATION FOR
CAMA MAJOR
DEVELOPMENT PERMIT
The NC Department of Environmental Quality hereby gives public notice as required by NCGS 113A-119(b) that application for a development permit in an AEC as designated under the CAMA was received on 7/1/2026. Applicant, Dare County is proposing to excavate the existing, federally maintained Rodanthe Emergency Ferry Channel and to create an extension off of the existing footprint into Pamlico Sound to a final project depth of -10.0 ft MLLW with a 2 ft over-dredge allowance across both footprints. The applicant is also proposing to create a new open water disposal area at the southern end of the proposed dredge extension footprint.​ ​​The project would be located within Pamlico Sound, south of the NC
Highway 12 “Jug Handle” bridge, in Dare County.
A copy of the entire application may be reviewed at the office of the Division of Coastal Management, located at 401 S Griffin St, Ste 300, Elizabeth City and reached by phone at (252) 621-6450 during normal business hours. Comments mailed to Tancred Miller, Director, DCM, 400 Commerce Avenue, Morehead City, NC 28557, prior to August 22, 2026, will be considered in making the permit decision. Later comments will be considered up to the time of permit decision. Project modification may occur based on review & comment by the public, state & federal agencies. Notice of the permit decision in this matter will be provided upon written request.
